Common Spinal Problems
1. Herniated Disc
A herniated disc occurs when the soft inner gel of the disc leaks
out through a tear in the outer layer. This can press on nearby
nerves, causing pain, numbness, and weakness.
Symptoms: Back pain, leg pain, tingling sensations.
Treatment: Physical therapy, medications, and in
severe cases, surgery.
2. Sciatica
Sciatica is characterized by pain that radiates along the sciatic
nerve, which runs down one or both legs from the lower back.
Symptoms: Shooting pain, numbness, or weakness in
the leg.
Treatment: Medications, physical therapy, and
possibly surgery.
3. Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. It
commonly develops during growth spurts before puberty.
Symptoms: Uneven shoulders, waist, or hips.
Treatment: Bracing for mild cases; surgery for
severe curvature.
4. Spinal Stenosis
Spinal stenosis involves the narrowing of spaces within the
spine, putting pressure on the nerves.
Symptoms: Pain, numbness, muscle weakness.
Treatment: Physical therapy, medications, and
surgery if necessary.
