Common Problems of the Arm
1. Biceps Tendonitis
This condition involves the inflammation of the tendons that
attach the biceps muscle to the bones of the shoulder and elbow.
Biceps tendonitis is often caused by repetitive lifting or
overhead activities.
Symptoms: Pain in the front of the shoulder or
elbow, weakness in the arm, and discomfort during movement.
Treatment: Rest, physical therapy,
anti-inflammatory medications, and in severe cases, surgical repair.
2. Triceps Tendonitis
This condition occurs when the tendon that connects the triceps
muscle to the elbow becomes inflamed, typically due to repetitive
pushing or forceful extension movements.
Symptoms: Pain at the back of the arm, swelling,
and difficulty extending the arm.
Treatment: Rest, ice, physical therapy, and in some
cases, surgery to repair the damaged tendon.
3. Humerus Fracture
A fracture of the humerus bone is usually caused by trauma, such
as a fall or an accident. This injury can be severe and often
requires medical intervention.
Symptoms: Intense pain, swelling, inability to move
the arm, and visible deformity in severe cases.
Treatment: Immobilization with a cast or brace,
pain management, physical therapy, and possibly surgery to realign
the bone.
4. Rotator Cuff Injuries
The rotator cuff, a group of muscles and tendons that stabilise
the shoulder, plays a significant role in arm movement. When
injured, it can cause pain radiating down to the arm.
Symptoms: Pain when lifting or lowering the arm,
weakness, and limited range of motion.
Treatment: Physical therapy, rest,
anti-inflammatory medications, and surgery in severe cases.
