Frozen Shoulder Exercises

These specialized physical rehabilitation exercises are designed to restore range of motion, improve flexibility, and reduce stiffness in frozen shoulders (adhesive capsulitis). Click any card below to open detailed visual instructions and physiological guidance.

1. Codman's Pendulum

Codman's Pendulum

Passive circular arm dangling to decompress the joint space.

Perform 1 min • 3 Reps

2. Towel Stretch

Towel Stretch

Gently pull towel vertically up back with good hand to stretch affected side.

Hold 30s • 3-5 Reps

3. Wall Climbing

Wall Climbing

Slowly crawl fingers up wall to lift arm without active shoulder contraction.

Perform 1 min • 3 Reps

4. Internal Rotation Stretch

Internal Rotation Stretch

Posterior capsule stretch by pulling arm behind lower back.

Hold 20s • 5-10 Reps

5. External Rotation

External Rotation

Sit and hold a stick horizontally; use good arm to push affected side outward.

Hold 20s • 5-10 Reps

6. Cross-Body Stretch

Cross-Body Stretch

Pull arm across chest with opposite hand to stretch posterior shoulder.

Hold 30s • 3-5 Reps

7. Arm Circles

Arm Circles

Hold arms straight to the sides and trace circular motion in the air.

Perform 1 min • 3 Reps

8. Stick Press-Up

Stick Press-Up

Press stick horizontally overhead using assistance from unaffected arm.

Hold 5s • 10 Reps

9. Doorway Stretch (Single Arm)

Doorway Stretch (Single Arm)

Step forward with forearm flat on frame to stretch front shoulder.

Hold 30s • 3-5 Reps

10. Doorway Stretch (Double Arm)

Doorway Stretch (Double Arm)

Lean forward through doorway with both forearms on frame to open chest.

Hold 30s • 3-5 Reps
